Baseball Bundesliga 1984

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baseball Bundesliga 1984 was the first season of the newly formed Baseball Bundesliga , after the interruption of the league operations from 1971 to 1983. In the end, the German championship won the second team of the Mannheim Tornados unbeaten .

Regular season

In 1984, the Bundesliga baseball consisted of the North and South seasons, which are still known today, with a total of 11 teams from 10 clubs at the start. The Mannheim Tornados offered two teams, of which the Mannheim Tornados 2 won the championship.

1. Bundesliga North

The 1. Bundesliga North consisted of six teams, half of which, however, played out of competition. In order to get enough teams together for the play-offs, the Geilenkirchen Panthers played the play-offs as runner-up in the regular season, however, in fourth place. As in the Bundesliga South, one city was able to provide two teams in the Bundesliga North: Both the Cardinals and the Dodgers came from Cologne . Since only three teams did not play out of competition, these teams were already guaranteed play-off participation, so for these teams it was only about the starting situation for the play-offs.

Play-offs

As far as is known, the play-offs were played in a best-of-one format, which means that only one game decided on progress. For unknown reasons, the game was not played completely crosswise, but the first two places in each season were in the same half of the tournament. This constellation resulted in two internal duels in Cologne and Mannheim in the semi-finals, and in Mannheim it was even played within the club.

German champions were finally unbeaten after a 13: 3 final success, the Mannheim Tornados 2 with 19 wins from 19 games from the regular season and play-offs.
