Baseball Bundesliga 1993

The 1993 Baseball Bundesliga was the tenth season of the Baseball Bundesliga . For the third time (after 1988 and 1989 ), the Mannheim Tornados and the Cologne Cardinals met in the final , and as before with the better end for the Tornados, who were able to secure their ninth championship title .


Regular season

The Bundesliga North and South were increased from six to eight teams each. The seven teams of a season played against each other three times in the regular season. The best four teams each qualified for the play-offs, while the teams from the lower half of the table played another game against the other three teams and thus determined the placement.

1. Bundesliga North

By increasing to eight teams, the Berlin Sluggers , the Holzwickede Joboxers and the Hamburg Skeezicks were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, for all of the clubs mentioned it was the first year of membership in the highest German baseball league. The St. Pauli Knights , who had been relegated the previous year, were no longer there .

1st Bundesliga South

By increasing the Bundesliga to eight teams, no team had to relegate after the 1992 season . However, two teams rose: The Trier Cardinals reached a play-off spot in their first Bundesliga season, while the Zülpich Eagles returned to the top German division as a founding member and an integral part of the baseball Bundesliga of the 1980s.

Play-offs

The play-offs were played among the four best teams in the North and South Bundesliga. The two best teams of each season were able to play their way into the semi-finals, where the two runners-up from the regular season could prevail. The Tornados won the final, which was played in a single game, 7: 1 and thus became German baseball champions in 1993.
