biography

After leaving school, he began an apprenticeship as a system technician. Schmidt served for three years in the National People's Army of the GDR and later worked as a system technician, insurance agent and property manager. He runs an inn in Meißen.

In 1997 he joined the NPD, from 2000 he was district chairman and member of the state board, from 1999 to 2009 city council in Meißen, from 2003 to 2005 deputy federal chairman of the local political association of the NPD, since 2004 also district councilor and member of the state parliament in Saxony .

He was nominated by his parliamentary group as a candidate for the post of commissioner for foreigners and received 14 votes in the ballot on December 9, 2004. Since the NPD parliamentary group only has twelve votes, at least two members of the parliament from other parliamentary groups must have also voted for Schmidt.

On January 21, 2005, Schmidt and the NPD parliamentary group left the meeting room of the Saxon state parliament after the President of the State Parliament Erich Iltgen (CDU) had also called for a silent memory of the victims of the Holocaust . A request previously made by the NPD provided for a reminder of the bombing raids on Dresden on February 13, 1945. This incident triggered a political scandal with nationwide resonance.

Mirko Schmidt resigned from parliamentary group and party on December 17, 2005. He told the Sächsische Zeitung that the NPD's now open commitment to National Socialism was no longer acceptable to him: “The NPD has left democratic principles”. On December 21, 2005 his parliamentary group colleague Klaus Baier and on December 23, 2005 Jürgen Schön followed this step.

Schmidt founded the Saxon People's Party (SVP) on March 19, 2006 , which defines itself as a democratic right-wing party, and has been its chairman ever since. Since the SVP is right-wing extremist according to the Saxon constitution protection , it is monitored by this.

After leaving the NPD parliamentary group, Schmidt was a non-attached member of the Saxon state parliament and was an advisory member of the committee for the environment and agriculture. In the Meißen city council election at the beginning of June 2009, Schmidt achieved 0.9% of the votes with his own list and thus resigned from the city council. After the state elections in Saxony in 2009 , in which the SVP received 0.2% of the vote, he is no longer a member of the state parliament. Schmidt himself was an applicant for a direct mandate in the constituency of Meissen 1 and had received 1.1% of the votes there. Since January 2011 he has been the deputy chairman of the Citizens' Movement for Saxony . In November 2012 he was elected member of the Citizens Movement pro Germany party.

In the state elections in Saxony in 2014 , Schmidt was the top candidate for the citizens' movement pro Germany. On December 15, 2015, the SVP dissolved and re-founded on the same day. Mirko Schmidt was unanimously elected chairman of the SVP. His deputies are the building contractor Heiko Lorenz and Jens Schurig.

He is married and has three children.
