Miroslav Klega

Miroslav Klega (born March 6, 1926 in Vítkovice , † June 25, 1993 in Ostrava ) was a Czech composer.

The son of the music director Ludvík Klega grew up after his death under the tutelage of the writer Vojtěch Martínek . He studied at the Prague Conservatory with Karel Hoffmeister , Jaroslav Křička and Václav Talich and at the Bratislava Conservatory with Eugen Suchoň and Ján Cikker .

He was one of the founders of the Petr Bezruč Theater in Ostrava and founded a branch of the Czech Composers ' Union there. In 1953 he was a co-founder of the conservatory, whose director he became in 1967. From 1973 he was an editor and director at the Czechoslovak Radio . In 1990 he became a member of the Czech National Council as a representative of the Ostrava Citizens' Forum .

Klega composed film and theater music, symphonic works, piano pieces, choral works and songs. He received an award at the Marienbad Film Festival for the music for the film Mária Justinová . The University of Cambridge awarded him a gold medal for his contributions to European music.
