The forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Tempe" Brennan discovers bear bones in the garden of a remote farmhouse and a short time later a human corpse without a head or hands. In addition, a Cessna falls into a corn field for an unknown cause and Brennan also has to investigate the victims of this disaster.
