The corpse of a Jewish businessman gives forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Tempe" Brennan worked overtime in the lab. The gunshot wound to the head suggests suicide, but the coroner cannot rule out a crime. Her investigations take an unexpected turn when a stranger gives her the photo of an ancient skeleton from Israel and asserts that it was the key to the death of the strictly religious man. So Tempe comes across a supposedly profound secret that is older than the Bible. It could shake the cornerstone of the Jewish and Christian history of faith.
