Dr. Temperance "Tempe" Brennan is forced to travel to Chicago with colleague and ex-boyfriend Andrew Ryan to defend her results and reputation, amid allegations of wrongdoing on an old case. Although she initially succeeds in restoring her reputation, her work is also mysteriously sabotaged in her new case, which involves a number of older women killed in the Montreal area.
