Louriçal is a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Pombal .
geography
The place is 10 km from the district town of Pombal, 15 km from Soure and 18 km from Figueira da Foz .
history
In 1166 the community was assigned to the Santa Cruz Monastery in Coimbra by Portugal's first King D. Afonso Henriques and received city rights (foral) from King Manuel I in 1514 . In 1836 Louriçal was assigned to Pombal, after it had belonged to the then administrative district (comarca) Coimbra. In 1855 the previously existing district (concelho) Louriçal was dissolved and incorporated into the Pombal district.

Louriçal is located on the Linha do Oeste and is also the end point of the Ramal do Louriçal freight train route , which supplies the nearby paper mills.

The place is between the A1 motorway (exit Pombal) and the A17 , with its own exit. The national road N237 (identifier IC8) leads through the village.
