The center of the world is the eleventh studio album by the German band Element of Crime . It was released in 2005 on the major label Universal Records . The album rose to number seven in the German charts, making it the group's greatest success to date. It was also the first album for which the band received a gold record .

History of origin

In 2004 the band paused except for a few festival appearances. While Sven Regener was publishing his novel Neue Vahr Süd , Richard Pappik was busy with his project Bongogott. At the end of the year, just before Christmas, the recordings for the eleventh studio album began. The album was produced by David Young. He has worked with the band since 1988, and has also been an active bass player since 2002. The recordings took place in the Berlin Tritonus recording studio. Mixing took place in the Masterlink studio and in the Yes master studio in Nashville .

Music genre

Element of Crime have chosen a more economical instrumentation on this album than on the previous album Romantik (2001). While the trumpet was used a little more sparingly but more in the foreground and the drums were mixed a little further forward, a second guitar was omitted. This leads to the fact that the music sounds a bit rougher than on the previous albums. Nevertheless, the album mainly relies on the tried and tested. The music is calm and soulful, while the lyrics are still very melancholy, but also have a very ironic effect and are provided with puns.

success

Element of Crime was able to place itself in the middle of the world at number seven in the German-language album charts. In total, the album stayed in the Top10 album charts for two weeks. The two single releases Delmenhorst and Tram of Death were also able to place in the charts. Delmenhorst , released on September 12, 2005 and even before the album was released, reached number 52. Tram of Death was released on February 17, 2006 and reached number 67. At the end of 2007 Element of Crime was awarded a gold record for the center of the world .
