Menasse from Dorthe

Manasseh by Dorthe (actually: d'Orchez ) (* 1660 , † 1731 ) was a kurbrandenburger Lieutenant General and chief of a free company .

Life

Menasse von Dorthe came from the family of Claude Antoine de Bienne Baron de Clervant, a family from which the kings of Burgundy also come. It was an ancient noble family in Metz .

Like many others, he came to Brandenburg via Metz after the edict of Nantes was repealed . There he joined the army and in 1688 became a lieutenant colonel in infantry regiment No. 13 (Varenne) which at that time consisted only of French refugees. In 1692 he became a colonel and in 1698 major general . In November 1701 he set up another French regiment for King Friedrich Wilhelm I. It was sent to Holland by the man from Brandenburg. General Varenne was to become chief there and Dorthe commander . The latter, however, did not want to and was therefore transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 10 (Alt-Heiden). In 1703 he set up a free company which was put together in Rathenow in March and moved to a garrison in Magdeburg . In 1713 he was appointed lieutenant general. The Dorthe Free Company was absorbed into Infantry Regiment No. 22 in 1713 .

He was married to Marie de Meaux (1654-1737). She was the widow of General Briquemault .
