The Mittersee is a lake largely in the municipality of Ruhpolding ( district Seehauser Forst ) and with its south-western third in the municipality of Reit im Winkl , between the two places mentioned. It has an area of 14.28 hectares and is a maximum of 11.8 meters deep.
The lake is located in the three lakes area (the other lakes are Weitsee and Lödensee ) and extends with the other two lakes in the valley between Gurnwandkopf and Dürrnbachhorn , directly on the German Alpine Road (B305).
Bathing has not been recommended since 2017, the water quality suffers from the adjacent cow pastures and manure / feces on the lawn.
