The Mittleres Kalltal nature reserve is located in the municipality of Simmerath . It starts at the Kall dam wall and ends at Landesstraße 160 .

description

The Kall flows here as a near-natural low mountain range through a notch valley overgrown with beech, oak and spruce trees . The river bed is stony to gravel with scour formations . The floodplain area consists of alder forest , to the south there are remains of gorge forest . The near-natural character makes the Kall an important area for the protection and preservation of typical flowing water communities. The aim is to carefully dismantle the spruce stands and to plant deciduous forests .
