Mohamed Badawi

Mohamed Badawi (* 1965 in Omdurman ) is a Sudanese linguist and publishing director, singer and composer and founder of the "Sudan Education Project".

Life

Mohamed Badawi's family belong to the followers of the Sufi order of Qadiriyya . His father was Minister of Education, his mother runs private girls' schools. Badawi has lived in Europe since 1984. From 1984 to 1993 he studied French, Arabic , theoretical linguistics and German at the universities of Lyon and Constance. Following his studies, he received his doctorate in 1997 at the University of Konstanz in the field of linguistics . He currently lives with his family in Konstanz .

Badawi is the author of several Arabic textbooks and editor of the As-Sabil anthologies for cultural pluralism, which deal with the culture and religion of the Arab world. He is also the owner of the Badawi artes afro arabica publishing house .

In 2019, Badawi was elected to the Free Green List (a Constance voters' association) with the highest number of votes of all candidates in the municipal council.

Mohamed Badawi is the founder, composer and singer of the groups Badawi Band , Diwan and El Nour Ensemble . In addition to singing, he also plays oud . In musical projects he worked with, among others, Hubl Greiner and the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie .

"Sudan Education Project"

Mohamed Badawi is also the founder of the “Sudan Education Project”. On the one hand, he designed a concept for the establishment of a European university in the greater Khartoum area , the "Nihal European University". On the other hand, street children are encouraged by giving them music lessons.
