Moisés da Costa Amaral

Moisés da Costa Amaral (born May 19, 1938 in Fahinehan , Fatuberlio administrative office , Manufahi municipality , Portuguese Timor ; † February 22, 1989 ) was an East Timorese politician of the União Democrática Timorense (UDT).

Political activity

From 1975 until his death in 1989 Amaral was President of the Political Commission of the UDT.

On March 31, 1986, Amaral agreed with the left-wing FRETILIN and other East Timorese parties to form the National Timorese Convergence (Convergencia Nacional Timorense CNT) to work against the Indonesian occupation of East Timor. On August 12, 1988, Amaral was allowed to speak before the United Nations as a member of a CNT delegation for East Timor's right to self-determination. Other members of the delegation were the apostolic administrator Dilis Martinho da Costa Lopes , Roque Rodrigues (FRETILIN) and João Viegas Carrascalão (UDT).

Moisés da Costa Amaral was married and had one child.
