Molest was a Belgian thrash metal band from Grimbergen , which was founded in 1986 under the name Damnation .

history

The band was founded in 1986 under the name Damnation by guitarist Koen De Boevé, bassist Patrick Meuris and drummer Koen Bulens. After drummer Bart Reinartz joined the band in 1988, Bulens decided to take up the post of singer. The band never played a gig under the name Damnation, nor did they record a demo. Eventually Meuris decided to rename the band Molest. Several local appearances followed in Peizegem . A short time later, William Krusche joined as the second guitarist.

In March 1989 the band recorded their first demo called Let Me Out . The demo was recorded, mixed and mastered within 13 hours in the Jam Studio in Kampenhout under the direction of producers Alex Raes and Jos Van Geit . From this point on, the members gave themselves different pseudonyms : Boeffer (Koen De Boevé), Boelens (Koen Bulens), Bronto (Patrick Meuris) and Woody (Bart Reinartz). Shortly after the recordings, William Krusche left the band. In 1990 the band recorded their second demo Looney Tunes from Insania , which was released in September. After the release, bassist Patrick Meuris left the line-up and was replaced by Sigi Verbeeck, and Gert Peeters joined the band as the second guitarist.

Towards the end of 1993 the band came into contact with producer André Gielen and recorded a promo demo that included five songs in his recording studio in Hautregard Recordings Studio in Verviers in early 1994 . Shortly after the recordings, guitarist Koen De Boevé left the band, followed a little later by drummer Bart Reinartz. Through the demo, the band reached a contract with Progress Records in early 1995 . In May 1995, the band returned to the Hautregard Recordings Studio to record eight new songs within eleven days. Together with two songs from the promo demo, Art of Knowing and Sufferage , the songs were released as the debut album Milkfish in early August 1995. The album was available worldwide and about 5000 copies were sold. The publication followed various appearances, both nationally and internationally, whereby the group played in 1996 in Brussels with Mucky Pup and in Vooruit with Rammstein . There was also a three-week tour of Denmark with Trend , where they also played with Grope and Red Harvest . In 1997 the band returned to the Hautregard Recordings Studio to record songs for a second album. André Gielen worked as the producer, while Lio Kor mixed the album. The album Tep Zepi was released on the studio's own label Urban Records towards the end of the year.

Guitarist Gert Peeters passed away just a week after it was released. Paulus Ielegems joined the band as a temporary replacement. With this a few concerts were held that were planned in advance to promote the new album. After a few concerts, the remaining appearances were canceled until the band announced their final breakup in early 1998.

After the dissolution

The remaining band members then devoted themselves to a trip-hop project called Kooler, together with Cyclone member Stefaan Daamen. In the summer of 2002, drummer Gert Verbeeck, bassist Pieter Boeckx and guitarist Piet Vanbeckbergen got together and founded the band Carlos. A short time later, Koen Bulens and Sigi Verbeeck also joined, with Vebeeck replacing Boeckx on bass. The band released an EP in April 2003 and played a number of appearances, such as on the after-show for Monster Magnet . A debut album called An Evening With Maria Gomez was recorded, one song of which appeared on a compilation . The album itself never came out and the group broke up in late 2006. During the band's existence, Gert Verbeeck also helped out as a drummer for the Belgian band Sengir , which led to him staying in the band for about a year.

In the summer of 2007, Tom Janssens and Gert Verbeeck founded an electronic project called TJ & Vomitron, which resulted in two EPs. In the summer of 2008, drummer Veerbeck, singer and guitarist Chris Fragala, bassist Koen Petitjean and guitarist Piet Vanbeckbergen founded an unnamed band. After Carlos broke up, bassist Sigi Verbeeck moved to the south of France . Koen Bulens still lives in Belgium with his band. Koen De Boevé worked as a sound engineer at the Galaxy Studio in Mol and later worked as a freelance sound engineer. He also joined a band. Drummer Bart Reinartz, who had left Molest in 1994, joined the band Dream Machine in September of the same year, called D.Machine from 1997 onwards. D.Machine, in turn, renamed itself to Fallow a short time later, before the band split up in late 1997. Reinartz then founded the band Killchair with other members. After the band broke up in late 1998, Reinartz was inactive for the next eight years. In 2008 he joined the stoner rock band Me. Bassist Patrick Meuris joined the reunited band Cruxmortis in early 1990. In 1994 the band released a demo. Later he also founded his own label Buzzville Records, musically he is currently only privately active.

style

The band plays aggressive thrash metal, comparable to the music of Devastation and Sepultura .
