Mucky Pup is an American crossover band from Bergenfield , New Jersey that was formed in 1986.
history
The band was formed in 1986 by guitarist Dan Nastasi, drummer John Milnes, singer Chris Milnes and bassist Scott LePage. After the first appearances and the release of two demos, the band received a contract with Torrid Records , which included the debut album Can't You Take a Joke? Published in 1987. Then LePage got out to return to his previous band Hades . He was replaced by Dave Neabore, who can only be heard on the second album A Boy In a Man's World (1988). He dropped out to found Dog Eat Dog in 1990 with Nastasi, Milnes and singer John Connor . Nastasi could not take part in the following Mucky Pup tours, so he was represented by Sean Kilkenny. His engagement was limited in time, as he switched to Dog Eat Dog as the second guitarist.
In 1989 the album Now followed. On the album Nastasi could be heard again, but he was represented on tour by guitarist Splatter, who was replaced a little later by Terry. Marc DeBacker was the bass player in the band, which Dog Eat Dog would later join. In 1990, the album Act of Faith followed through Century Media . Thereupon Kevin Powers was represented as keyboardist. On the follow-up album Lemonade Powers played the drums, as drummer Milnes had switched to the electric guitar. During the subsequent appearances, Eric Van Steenberg was represented as the second guitarist. Also was Ludichrist - and Scatterbrain guitarist Glen Cummings temporarily part of the band. In 1993 Mucky Pup released a cover version of the Prince song Darling Nikki from his album Purple Rain on their album Alive & Well . The last studio album to date, Five Guys In a Really Hot Garage , was released by SPV Recordings in 1995. Several tours followed the release, including with Dog Eat Dog. At the end of the 1990s, the band broke up for the time being due to the greater success of Dog Eat Dog. In the following years the band made a few appearances. From 2009 the band played concerts again regularly and consisted of Nastasi, DeBacker, Powers and Pitzer. Performances all over Europe followed in the summer .
style
The band plays a mixture of Hardcore Punk and Thrash Metal, comparable to Anthrax and Stormtroopers of Death . The lyrics are mostly humorous, comparable to the Bloodhound Gang , although Mucky Pup's songs are less poppy . On the album Lemonade , however, they took up more serious topics. In addition, influences from other genres such as funk and hip-hop can also be heard.
