The Molkenrain (French: le Molkenrain ) is a hilltop of the southern Vosges in the Haut-Rhin department (Upper Alsace). Its summit area rises to a height of 1125  m . From the Vogesenkammstraße ( Route des Crêtes ) the hilltop can be reached on foot in half an hour. Below the summit is the hut of the Amis de la nature (Friends of Nature House) in a westerly direction , from which a descent to Thann is possible. In the east below the summit is the Ferme-Auberge Molkenrain (mountain farm inn) with restaurant and overnight accommodation. Between Molkenrain and Hartmannsweiler Kopf ( Hartmannswillerkopf , Vieil Armand ) there is a large cemetery of honor for the French fallen from the First World War .

A number of scenes from the film Jules and Jim by François Truffaut , a classic of French film and the Nouvelle Vague from 1962, were shot on the Molkenrain .
