Mompha maculata is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe fringed moth family (Momphidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 12 to 13 millimeters. Head and forehead ( frons ) shine pale gray. The parting and the tuft of the neck shimmer gray-brown. The antennae are gray-brown, the tip of the antenna consists of about ten gray-white segments. The thorax and tegulae are gray-brown and have a strong bronze sheen . The forewings have a dark brown sheen and an orange-yellow band near the base of the wing that is slightly sloping outwards. A similar colored spot is in the anal fold at 1/4 the length of the forewing. The drawing includes four white spots outlined in yellow. The first is on the inside edge of the wing at 2/5 of the fore wing length, the second near the Costa loader at half the fore wing length, the third at the inner angle and the fourth on the Costa loader at 4/5 of the fore wing length. The fringed scales are gray-brown. The hind wings have a brownish gray sheen.

The genital armature of the males is similar to that of Mompha locupletella , but it differs through the longer uncus and the longer cornutus of the aedeagus .

The females can be distinguished from the similar species M. locupletella on the basis of their apophyses of equal length. Other distinguishing features are the larger sclerotized and hairy lobes of the 8th sternite, the curved posterior margin at the indentation of the 7th sternite and the broader seminal duct.

distribution

Mompha maculata is native to Georgia , Azerbaijan, and Armenia .
