description

Vegetative characteristics

Monanthes anagensis is a perennial , somewhat woody and diffuse branched small shrub that reaches heights of 15 to 30 centimeters. The ascending or upright slender shoots are somewhat twisted and have a diameter of 3 to 5 millimeters. The alternately arranged, narrow elliptical leaves are heaped near the shoot tips. Their tapering leaf blades are 9 to 18 millimeters long, 2 to 4 millimeters wide and 2 to 4 millimeters thick. There is a central longitudinal furrow on the upper side of the leaf. Their surface is bare and smooth.

Inflorescences and flowers

blossoms

The terminal inflorescence is regularly branched. The six to eight-fold flowers reach a diameter of 4 to 6 millimeters. They stand on bare or with only a few very short glandular hairs occupied flower stems , which have a length from 7 to 15 millimeters. Their elongated, pointed or tapering petals are 3.4 to 4.6 millimeters long and 1.1 to 1.6 millimeters wide. The nectar flakes are 1.4 to 1.6 millimeters long and 1.6 to 2.2 millimeters wide. Your blade is more or less bilobed, truncated or inverted heart-shaped, tiny notched and often only indistinctly nailed.

Distribution and systematics

Monanthes anagensis is distributed on the Canary Island of Tenerife in the Anaga Mountains at altitudes of 600 to 900 meters (rarely above 100 meters).

The first description by Robert Lloyd Praeger was published in 1925.
