Monika Breustedt

Monika Breustedt (born May 21, 1945 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German painter , draftsman , photographer and object artist .

Life

Monika Breustedt was born in Bad Harzburg as the daughter of Edith and Hilmar Breustedt. Her maternal grandfather was Hermann Stopperich , a member of the Bundestag for the SPD .

After studios in Borsfleth , Worpswede , Montegrazie / Liguria, in Pollença on Mallorca, in Eckernförde , she has been living and working in Worpswede again since 2016.

Between 1962 and 1977 she studied sculpture , graphics and painting at the Art Academy in Bielefeld and the HdK in Berlin (diploma from Hans Förtsch ) as well as art education and text. Design at the PH in Kiel (exam).

Breustedt has been a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK) since 1977 . She made numerous trips and work stays in Sri Lanka, China, Russia, USA, Spain, Italy, France, Greece and England.

I think you have to free yourself from the conventional notion that something is actually present, which is then transferred as well, as precisely or as stylistically independent as possible onto the sheet or onto the canvas, criteria: recognizability or originality, Recognizability and originality. “My topics are: still life, landscape, interior. I use drawings, watercolor, pastel, oil painting and calligraphy, for example with my own diary notes or texts by H. Heine, RM Rilke, M. Ondaatje, A. Cunqueiro, among others. Based on so-called reality, I am particularly interested in the interplay between figure and ground, the appearance of objects from the shadows and their dissolving in the light, the modulation of Cézanne and the meditative works of Morandi, their magic. The result is pictures that move between a "realistic" representation of objectivity and its abstraction. Thing and space, still life and landscape are carriers of magical traces of the reality that surrounds me. ” (Monika Breustedt)
