The mononeuropathia multiplex ( gr. Monos alone; neuron nerve; lat. Multiplex multiple) is a certain distribution pattern of a polyneuropathy ( multiplex type ) in medicine . Several nerve trunks are affected at the same time or at different times. In contrast, neighboring nerve trunks are not or hardly affected.
A sub-form of mononeuropathia multiplex is mononeuritis multiplex , in which, in the broadest sense, an inflammatory reaction is the cause of the nerve damage. The combination of a mononeuropathia multiplex and a distally symmetrical neuropathy is referred to as a focus neuropathy.
As a symptom or sign of illness, mononeuropathia multiplex is usually a component of other or superordinate diseases. This includes
- Diabetes mellitus
- Collagenoses (for example lupus erythematosus , " mixed connective tissue disease ", rheumatoid arthritis , Sjogren's disease )
- Vasculitides (e.g. mononeuritis multiplex in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis or panarteritis nodosa )
- Sarcoid
- Amyloidosis
- Tomacular neuropathy
- Infectious diseases ( e.g. neuroborreliosis , AIDS , cytomegaly , herpes zoster , hepatitis B and hepatitis C , leprosy , leptospirosis )
- Severe arterial disease
- Lead poisoning .
