Monroe Henry Kulp (born October 23, 1858 in Barto , Berks County , Pennsylvania , †  October 19, 1911 in Shamokin , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Monroe Kulp attended the public schools in Shamokin and then the State Normal College in Lebanon ( Ohio ). He finished his studies at the Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie ( New York ). He then worked in Shamokin in the wood business, in the manufacture of bricks and in the ice production. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1894 , Kulp was elected to the 17th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat Simon Peter Wolverton on March 4, 1895 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1899 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . In 1898, Kulp was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked again in the wood industry. He was also active in various other industries. In June 1900, he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia , on which President William McKinley was nominated for re-election. Monroe Kulp died on October 19, 1911 in Shamokin, where he was also buried.
