Monster high

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monster High is a franchise of Mattel focusing on fashion dolls , which was released in July of 2010. The concept of the series was inspired by horror films and horror literature , which is why it differs from most other fashion dolls. It was created by designer Garrett Sander based on illustrations by Kellee Riley. The famous Barbie doll also comes from Mattel. The two product lines are intended to compete in the market.

In addition to dolls, the Monster High franchise also includes other products such as stationery, bags, key rings, and various toys and sports items. Not to forget Halloween costumes, which correspond to the individual dolls in individual rows. There are also Monster High TV specials, a web series and video games. The first series of books for young people was written by Lisi Harrison and published in the USA in 2010 and in Germany in 2011.

The characters are descendants of famous monsters like Dracula , Frankenstein , the Mummy , Medusa , The Monster of the Black Lagoon , the Phantom of the Opera or are put in connection with zombies and werewolves .

Dolls

The dolls are approx. 24 cm tall and have slightly oversized heads, button eyes and small noses. The bodies are made of ABS plastic while the heads are made of softer PVC . They have different skin colors (blue, green, pink, etc.) and each character has its own head shape. The hair is made of Saran or Kanekalon fibers, whereby the male dolls usually have plastic attachments instead of hair. The dolls are fully posable with removable forearms and hands.

In addition to physical characteristics, there are clear differences in their clothing style, which should emphasize their individual character. There are also strong references to their monster "parents", both painted on (e.g. fangs or seams) and tangible (e.g. wolf ears, webbed feet or bandages) features.

Books

The first Monster High book series for young people was written by Lisi Harrison, who is known among other things for her book series Die Clique . The plot of the books, however, takes place in a slightly modified Monster High universe, which differs significantly from that of the web series and television films. Not only do the monsters go through adolescent difficulties in the areas of love, social life and school, but they also have to cope with being different from monsters and be careful not to be exposed.

Mattel published the first volume on September 26, 2010 in the USA, in Germany the series has been published by Arena Verlag since 2011 .

On September 5, 2012, Gitty Daneshvari began as the author of Monster High: Ghoulfriends Forever in the USA, another series of young adult books. In contrast to the first series of books, the series is strongly based on the specifications of the Monster High universe.

main characters

  • Frankie Stein - Frankie is the daughter of Frankenstein's monster and is 15 months old. She has black hair with white strands, seams, and studs. She's the new one at Monster High. Your pet is a puppy named Watzit. Frankie is very friendly and athletic, but also very clumsy because her body parts are not very tight, especially her right hand often causes chaos. Since her body is electrified, it is not uncommon for her to apply electricity to those around her.
  • Clawdeen Wolf - Clawdeen is the daughter of the werewolf and has an older brother named Clawd, a younger sister named Howleen and five other brothers who are never named. She is 16 years old, covered in fur, and has two piercings on each wolf's ear. Your purple cat is called Crescent. She loves fashion and is confident, extroverted, wild and very kind to any monster.
  • Draculaura - Draculaura is the daughter of Count Dracula. She was 1,599 years old and turned 1,600 on Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day was created especially for Draculaura by the devious vampire Valentin to seduce her and break her heart. She has a heart-shaped birthmark under her left eye. The Draculauras family was driven from their homeland by an angry mob in the Middle Ages, so they came to Monster High. Your pet is a bat named Count Fabulous. Although Draculaura is a vampire, she is vegan and not only does not drink blood, but faints at the mention of blood. She has fangs, pale pink skin and is very friendly. For the typical vampiric skills, e.g. B. the transformation into a bat, it is not yet worthy enough (until it is achieved in the fourth film). She likes to write stories about her friends and long walks in the sun (with an umbrella, of course). Draculaura is in a relationship with Clawd, which ended the previous rivalry between vampires and werewolves at Monster High and led to a relaxed relationship between the two types of monsters.
  • Cleo de Nile - Cleo is the mummy's daughter and has an older sister named Neffera. She owns a snake named Hissette. She is the captain of the cheerleading team, queen of social life and Deuce Gorgon's friend. Cleo is Monster High's favorite monster. She's quick to get grumpy, but she's also a good friend and can be very forgiving to her friends. Her best friend is Ghoulia Yelps. She has strenuous activities done by servants modeled after the warriors of the Egyptian god of death, Anubis.
  • Deuce Gorgon - Deuce is the son of Medusa . His whole family can turn anything to stone. He enjoys skateboarding, is interested in cooking and loves playing basketball with his team. He wears sun glasses to prevent others from turning to stone when he looks at them. He has several green snakes on his head, which he styled into a kind of "snake mohawk". He named his two-tailed rat Perseus (probably to annoy his mother) and goes out with Cleo de Nile.
  • Lagoona Blue - Lagoona is the daughter of the sea monster. She lives on a reef near Australia and has a pink pet Pirania named Neptuna, which she always carries with her in a fishbowl handbag. She is a sporty tomboy who loves to be in the water.
  • Ghoulia Yelps - Ghoulia is the daughter of the zombies. She is the genius of the school, but she can only speak in the language of the zombies (groans and groans). She's Cleo's closest friend and a huge fan of comics, especially Dead Fast , and her trademark is her nerd horn-rimmed glasses. Your pet owl is called Sir Eulenschreck.
