The Mont Tondu is a 3196 m high mountain in the Savoy Alps in France .
geography
The mountain forms the southwest corner pillar of the heavily glaciated Mont Blanc massif , of which it is also the southernmost three-thousand-meter peak . At its summit is the culmination of three steep rock ridges, the eastern ridge of which extends far over the Aiguilles des Glaciers to the Aiguille de Tré la Tête at 3930 m. The north side of the mountain is partly glaciated, while to the south, west and east it drops steeply and mostly free of snow and ice.
Ascent
The normal route starts on the Glacier de Tré la Tête directly below the rock pyramid of the Aiguille des Lanchettes . The path climbs over fields of snow to the lower, steep but crevice-free edge of the Glacier du Mont Tondu . The path climbs over this to a small glacier break on the right, which is crossed. A small notch leads to the exposed northwest ridge of the mountain, which you follow over the Pain de Sucre pre-summit to the actual summit. The starting point for these routes is the Hotel de Tré la Tête (also: Refuge de Tré la Tête ) at 1970 m (approx. 6 hours) or the Refuge des Conscrits at 2602 m (approx. 5 hours). The ascent from Refuge Robert Blanc on the southeast side of the mountain is shorter (approx. 3½ hours), but is not done quite as often.
