The motor ship Montafon is a small passenger ship on Lake Constance , named after the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg .
history
The ship was built in 1957 at the Korneuburg shipyard and used as a Kriemhild on the Danube . The ÖBB bought the ship in 1975 as a replacement for the smaller and outdated Montafon , which was then taken out of service and scrapped in 1978.
The Kriemhild was extensively modernized and put into service on April 24, 1976. She took the name from her decommissioned predecessor ship. After ten years of service, the ship was fundamentally rebuilt in an extended winter break in 1986/87, the hull was lengthened by 5.50 m and the number of passengers increased by 47 to 160 people. With the new engine, the output increased from 2 × 110 kW (2 × 150 PS) to 2 × 171 kW (2 × 232 PS), the top speed could be increased from 24 km / h to 25.9 km / h.
In 2004 the starboard engine was destroyed by a fire in the engine room. In 2006 the ship was transferred from ÖBB to Vorarlberg Lines , and from 2012 onwards it was used by the Lake Constance shipping companies in charter traffic from the new home port of Uhldingen . At the International Lake Constance Week 2012 it served as the official regatta escort ship.
