The Monte Altissimo di Nago ( 2078 m ) is one of the highest peaks of the Monte Baldo ridge and is therefore one of the Lake Garda mountains in northern Italy .
topography
The Monte Altissimo di Nago is the highest peak in the northern part of the elongated Monte Baldo mountain ridge, which extends roughly from north to south. Other important peaks in this chain are Punta Telegrafo in the south and Cima delle Pozzette in the north. The Altissimo di Nago is separated from the chain further south by the Bocca di Navene pass ( 1420 m slm ).
The Altissimo subgroup also includes the peaks Corna Piana ( 1736 m ), Monte Campo ( 1667 m ) and Monte Varagna ( 1778 m ). From Monte Varagna the mountain falls over an elongated ridge in the northwest to Nago-Torbole . There is still the climbing area of the Segrom secondary peak . The north-eastern branch, on the other hand , is Monte Giovo , located in the municipality between Brentonico and Mori , which was known in the past as a marble quarrying area.
Alpinism
On the summit of the Altissimo di Nago is the working Rifugio Altissimo Damiano Chiesa . The easiest way to reach the summit is via the gravel road from the Strada Provinciale del Monte Baldo from the south, a route that is also popular with mountain bikers. Alternatively, the Sentiero della Pace Peace Trail (601) or the Alta Via del Monte Baldo are ideal as a mountain hike.
history
In addition to the Rifugio Altissimo Damiano Chiesa, there are also trenches from the First World War , as well as a chapel and a memorial to its victims.
