The Monte Faito is a 1131 meter high mountain in the Italian mountain range Monti Lattari in the Campania region . The name is derived from a local dialect and refers to the beech forests in the high areas of the mountain.
As a mountain of the southern Apennines , Monte Faito was created during the alpine mountain formation, which is still ongoing today. The rock is limestone , which is typical for the southern sub-Apennines . Since 1952 the summit of Monte Faito can only be reached by cable car from Castellammare di Stabia in summer . The journey takes about eight minutes. Furthermore, various hiking trails from Castellammare di Stabia and Vico Equense lead up the mountain.
