Montgarrie is a village in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Inverurie on the left bank of the Don . To the west and east rise the chains of the Correen Hills and Bennachie, respectively .

history

Directly west of the village, the prehistoric stone circle of Druidsfield testifies to the early settlement of the area. On July 2, 1645, an army of the Covenanters used the ford of Montgarrie to cross the Don. On the opposite bank they met the lurking royalist troops under the Earl of Montrose . The developing Battle of Alford ended in a clear victory for the royalists. The lands located east of Mont Garrie listed in the Middle Ages to the possession of the Knights Templar . There arose in 1745 the mansion Whitehaugh House . The Montgarrie Mill , which is still active today, produces oat flakes , which are now sold under the brand name "Oatmeal of Alford".

Between 1961 and 1971 the population of Montgarries fell from 153 to 129.
