The Moorhouse and Cross Fell Site of Special Scientific Interest is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Cumbria , England . The area stretches from Rotherhope Fell in the north to Knock Fell in the south. To the east it extends to Burnhope Seat on the County Durham border. The area includes the highest areas of the Pennines with Cross Fell as well as the neighboring Great Dun Fell and Little Dun Fell .

The area also includes the Moorhouse and Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve . The River Tees has its source in this area. The mountains form the watershed between the catchment area of ​​the River Tees and the River Eden .

The area is important because of its extensive moorland with its diverse flora and fauna. The moor turns into heathland in places like the Cross Fell.

With the caves of the Knock Fell Caverns , as well as the Sir John's Mine , the Windy Brown Mine and the Cross Fell and a section of the Black Burn , sites of geological importance have also been added to the area.
