The Morar is a river in the Scottish Highlands . It is located in the Highland Council Area right next to the village of Morar .
The Morar River is very short with a length of just under a kilometer. It drains Loch Morar into the nearby Hebridean Sea . There are several rapids and a run-of-river power plant in the river . In the lower reaches, the water flows through the Bay of Morar and forms the Silver Sands of Morar there . This is a slightly silvery shimmering stretch of beach, very popular with tourists, which was used as the location for the beach scenes in the film Local Hero .
