Morchella galilaea is a type of mushroom ( Ascomycota ) from the family of the morel relatives (Morchellaceae).

features

Macroscopic features

Morchella galilaea forms quite small, conical to almost cylindrical fruiting bodies , divided into a cap and stem , which are 30–50 millimeters high. The Turkish specimens are slightly larger at 53–78 millimeters. The part carrying the fruit layer, the hymenophore, is 36–45 millimeters in size and 12.5–17.5 millimeters wide. The fruit layer forms elongated pits which are separated from one another by sterile, longitudinally arranged ribs. The ribs are either narrow polygonal or long elliptical. They are 5.2–9.8 millimeters wide and 14.5–24.74 millimeters long, thin and elastic. They can be simple or forked, are white and sticky. The pits are light gray, blackish or silvery-gray when young, become grayish-light brown, olive-brown or yellow-brown with increasing maturity. The stem is white and sticky when young, then turns yellowish-white. It is 17–33 millimeters high and 5–8.2 millimeters wide, cylindrical or thickened towards the bottom. The flesh is whitish, 0.5–1 millimeters thick in the hollow hymenophore, the inner sterile surface is sticky.

Microscopic features

The spores are formed respectively to eight in asci lining the pits - the ribs are sterile. They are elliptical and smooth and measure 13.5 to 18 by 8 to 9.5 micrometers . The asci are cylindrical in shape and translucent , measuring 165 to 220 by 15 to 22 micrometers. The paraphyses are cylindrical to almost club-like, measure 100 to 130 micrometers by 6-11 micrometers and also hyaline or with a granular content. The tip is rounded to almost pointy.

ecology

In contrast to most other morel species, Morchella galilaea forms fruiting bodies in autumn. In Israel she was under narrow-leaved ash ( Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. Syriaca ). In Turkey, the species grew in a treeless spot on the Çukurova University campus . Like all morels , it probably lives saprobically , even if some species can probably also form a mycorrhiza with different plant species.

distribution

Morchella galilaea was first described in Israel . Finds from Turkey ( Adana Province ) are now also known. Molecular analyzes have shown, however, that Morchella galilaea is also found in China, Java , Hawaii , New Zealand, India and three African countries not mentioned.

Systematics and taxonomy

Morchella galilaea was first described by Segula Masaphy and Philippe Clowez in 2012 .
