Morgan Ringland Wise

Morgan Ringland Wise (born June 7, 1825 in West Bethlehem , Washington County , Pennsylvania , †  April 13, 1903 in Coraopolis , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1883 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Morgan Wise attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a teacher himself for some time. In 1850 he went to California , where he was also digging for this precious metal at the time of the gold rush there . There he also took part in military operations against the Indians. He later returned to Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Waynesburg College in 1856 . He also started working in agriculture. Politically, Wise became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1874 and 1878 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1878 Wise was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Jacob Turney on March 4, 1879 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1883 . Between 1879 and 1881 he headed the craft committee. In 1882 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Morgan Wise moved to what would later become the state of Arizona , where he raised cattle. Between 1888 and 1900 he was consular agent in the Mexican city of Nogales . He died in Coraopolis on April 13, 1903.
