The Morillot class was not built to end submarine - class of the French Navy . In the French type classification of the time, it was Class 1 boats. The ship class was an enlarged further development of the 1500-tonne type . Eight submarines were planned for the entire construction program, five of which were laid down between 1937 and 1939. The three boats Morillot , La Praya and La Martinique were destroyed by the French on June 23, 1940, immediately after the surrender of France , to prevent the Germans from building them further. Construction of two other boats had only begun shortly before the defeat by Germany. The construction was not continued and the orders for three more not yet laid down submarines were canceled.
The project was not continued after the end of the war.
