Moritz Naumann

Moritz Ernst Adolph Naumann (born October 7, 1798 in Dresden , †  October 19, 1871 in Bonn ) was a German physician and university professor.

Life

Moritz Naumann was a son of the composer Johann Gottlieb Naumann , his older brother was the mineralogist Carl Friedrich Naumann . He pursued his studies alternately at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and at the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in 1820 and taught as a private lecturer in 1824/25. In 1825 he went to Berlin as an associate professor, and finally in 1828 as a full professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . There he was rector of the university in 1842/43 and 1865/66 and director of the clinical institute between 1851 and 1864. In 1864 he resigned from the clinic. He died in Bonn in 1871.

Naumann held events on the history of medicine, medical geography, climatology and balneology and wrote numerous medical publications. His main work is the manual of the medical clinic. In the winter semester of 1835/36, Karl Marx enrolled in his lecture "Encyclopedia and Methodology of Medicine".

  • Ida Naumann, later Becker (1832–1897), singer and composer.
