Moritz Röbbecke
Moritz Friedrich Röbbecke (born January 13, 1857 in Meerane , † April 29, 1916 in Dresden ) was a German painter and copyist.
Life
Röbbecke was born as the fourth child of the businessman Friedrich Theodor Röbbecke and his wife Hedwig. At the age of 14, he began his apprenticeship at a lithographic art institute in Leipzig and attended evening courses at a school of applied arts. He then worked as a lithographer in Dresden. From October 12, 1877, Röbbecke studied painting at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich and became a master student of Gabriel von Max in 1882 .
From 1894 he copied around 25 masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn , Tizian , Raffael and Leonardo da Vinci on behalf of Prince George of Prussia .
In 1905 Röbbecke received a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition for a double portrait of two of his artist friends. The portrait shows the painters Paul Baum and Alexander Schmidt-Michelsen , as well as Röbbecke, who can be seen in a mirror in the background. In December 1908 he was awarded the title of professor in Berlin.
Sick, he went to Dresden- Blasewitz in 1914 , where he died in 1916. Röbbecke was buried in the Meeraner cemetery.
