Moritz Rahmer
Moritz Rahmer (born December 16, 1837 in Rybnik , Upper Silesia ; died March 2, 1904 in Magdeburg ) was a German rabbi , publicist and editor .
Moritz Rahmer went to the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau at the age of 16 . In November 1857 he also enrolled at the university there . In July 1860 he received his doctorate in Leipzig . In 1862 he received the rabbi diploma as one of the first three graduates of the Breslau seminary.
In 1862 Rahmer became a rabbi in Thorn (West Prussia) and at the same time head of the elementary and religious school there.
From 1867 he was a rabbi in Magdeburg. He was the first rabbi in Prussia to be a city councilor (1876-1894) and at times a member of the municipal school commission. He made great contributions to Jewish life in Magdeburg. Among other things, he founded the Widows and Orphans Support Association, the Women's Association and the Mendelssohn Lodge.
Among other things, he was the editor of various supplements to the Israelitische Wochenschrift , which he headed for almost twenty years. This includes, for example, the Jewish literature sheet .
