Moritz Wullen

Moritz Wullen (born November 21, 1966 in Stuttgart ) is a German art historian and museum director.

Life

After studying history and art history at the University of Stuttgart , Moritz Wullen received his doctorate in 1997 on the subject of “What is German? Functions of German honesty and honesty in communication in the 18th century ”. From 1997 to 1999 Moritz Wullen was a museum assistant in advanced training at the Nationalgalerie . In 1999 he became the personal assistant to the General Director of the National Museums in Berlin . In 2006 he was appointed Exhibition Director of the National Gallery. Moritz Wullen has been director of the art library of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin since 2007 .

The focus of his research and museum work is the networking of the humanities and cultural sciences, as well as the expansion of the dialogue with the natural sciences. The interdisciplinary projects are carried out in cooperation with archaeological, art history and ethnological museums, universities and international research institutions. The aim is to develop new perspectives on the history of visual culture in all areas of life and knowledge. The exhibition “Measure, Number and Weight. Masterpieces from the Architecture Collection of the Art Library ”(2008, cooperation with the Humboldt University Berlin ),“ Babylon : Myth ”(2008, cooperation with the Vorderasiatisches Museum Berlin , Musée du Louvre Paris , British Museum London ),“ Immortal! The Cult of the Artist ”(2008, cooperation with the Archaeological Museums and Museums of European Art of the National Museums in Berlin), as well as“ From more than one world. The Arts of Enlightenment ”(2012, cooperation with the Humboldt University of Berlin).

Moritz Wullen has given the art library an international profile as an interdisciplinary museum facility with numerous digitization and research projects on the history of 20th century architecture, photography, fashion and provenance research.
