Moscow is a German hit, composed by Ralph Siegel , texted by Bernd Opinion , which was first introduced in 1979 by the group Dschinghis Khan .

history

The song was a great success in Germany (number 3 in the charts), even more so in Australia . Here the song stayed at number 1 for five weeks, as it was used by Australian television as signature music for broadcasts of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow .

The song also became very popular in Russia , although it was not for sale at the time. When Moscow presented itself as the host of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 , the song was recorded at the beginning.

In 2018, Dschinghis Khan celebrated a comeback on the occasion of the 2018 World Cup and re-released the song Moscow in the German version with singer Jay Khan .

Cover versions

There are some cover versions, for example of the German black metal band Black Messiah , the German punk band Geistige Verunigung or the Leningrad Cowboys . A Chinese version with different text was recorded by Da Zhangwei. Most recently, Uschi Blum gave a performance in Berlin's Friedrichstadt-Palast . A Russian version was presented by the Nadežda Babkina Ensemble in the New Year's Eve show on December 31, 2012 on the Russian television channel Perwy Kanal.

Another cover version is used in the commercial of the furniture store Höffner (refrain "Höffner, Höffner, ..."), in which Hape Kerkeling also appears.

The satirical program extra 3 broadcast a parody of the song in 2009.

In 2020, Da Tweekaz and Harris & Ford released a hardstyle version of this song.
