The five-door sedan has been built since 1997. The spacious vehicle was characterized by good road holding and driving style compared to Russian competing models. Somewhat larger than its predecessor, the Moskvich-2141 , the trunk volume could be further increased by adjusting the rear seats. Central locking and power steering were available at an additional cost . An engine from VAZ-2130 (2141V3) or Renault's F3R (2141R5) was installed. All-wheel drive, 5-speed manual transmission, disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear and tires of sizes 175/70 R14 or 185/70 R14 were standard ex works.

The car, described by the manufacturer as solid but very comfortable, was a little longer than its predecessor and had a smaller turning circle. This version also had central locking and power steering for an extra charge. The five-seater mid-range car was built for poor roads and temperatures from −40 ° C to +40 ° C, which was appropriate for the Russian domestic market. All-wheel drive, 5-speed manual gearbox, disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear were standard ex-works. The version 2142-164 was offered with a Renault F3R engine and the version 2142-179 with УЗАМ 3317.

Ivan Kalita

The four-door, known colloquially as Kalita , was the idea of a new Russian luxury car. Comfortable leather upholstery, air conditioning , power steering, electric mirrors, electric windows, central locking and radio with CD player were standard. The Renault F7R engine with direct injection (2 liter displacement, 145 hp) ensured sufficient motorization. All-wheel drive, 5-speed manual transmission and also here disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear were installed. The tire size was 185/70 R14.

Whereabouts

No vehicle in the 2142 series was introduced in Germany , so there is no TSN or type approval. It was only exported temporarily and in small numbers to neighboring CIS countries . The supply of spare parts in Russia is still provided by residual stocks and private manufacturers; Since the number of vehicles is steadily falling and the market for other (also Western) used cars is large, the manufacturer had to be declared insolvent and the vehicles rust relatively quickly, the models of the 2142 series are slowly but surely disappearing the Russian streetscape.

However, one vehicle of each model series exists in the Moskvich Museum and individual vehicles in museums all over the world.
