The Moskvich-407 ( russian Москвич-407 ) is a passenger of the Soviet manufacturer Moskovsky Zavod Malolitraschnych Awtomobilej (Russian Московский завод малолитражных автомобилей shortly MZMA or Russian МЗМА, known by the use of the brand name Moskvich ), which from 1958 to October 1963 in series was built. It was the successor to the Moskvich-402 and received a new engine and later a new manual transmission. The body shape remained largely unchanged.

Under the designation Moskvich-423N (Russian Москвич-423Н) a version as a station wagon was built until 1963, the Moskvich-430 is a panel van and the Moskvich-410N was also an off-road vehicle.

In May 1958 the Moskvich-402 received a completely new engine and was renamed the Moskvich-407. Like its predecessor, the now built-in gasoline engine had four cylinders, but the displacement increased to 1358 cm³. This increased the output from 35 to 45 hp (33 kW). Externally, the car remained almost unchanged, only the Moskvich lettering was added on the bonnet.

In December 1958, according to other information not until 1959, delivery began with a new four-speed manual transmission. A three-speed gearbox had previously been installed. The most noticeable change took place in 1960, the entire radiator grille was replaced with a model with a rectangular structure. Until the end of production, there were other minor visual changes, including the side trim and the emblem on the bonnet.

In April 1960 the vehicle received a new rear axle, which reduced the overall ratio from 4.71 to 4.55. The top speed was now 115 km / h. At the end of 1961, production of the all-terrain variant with all its modifications was discontinued.

In December 1962, the successor to the saloon, the Moskvich-403, was introduced; production of the Moskvich-407 continued until October 1963. The new vehicles were built on the completely revised chassis of the Moskvich-408 . Work on the new model had already started in 1959. A total of 359,980 vehicles of all model variants of the Moskvich-407 were built and at times more than 50% were exported.

As early as 1958, the Moskvich factory team built rally vehicles based on the Moskvich-407, which were also used at rally events within the Soviet Union. The prototype RAF-08 minibus from 1958 was based on the chassis of the Moskvich-407 and also used the same engine and transmission. The Soviet Post honored the Moskvich-407 with a postage stamp that appeared in 1960.
