The Motorbootgesellschaft Bodman mbH was a shipping company founded in 1897 with headquarters in Bodman-Ludwigshafen in the district of Constance in Baden-Württemberg . In addition to regular scheduled shipping on the Überlinger See , the long-established company also offered special, charter and welcome trips. The main shareholder of the motor boat company is the municipality of Bodman-Ludwigshafen with an almost 99 percent stake. Other co-partners are Johannes Freiherr von und zu Bodman and the Bodman Tourism Association. The company's last managing director was Matthias Weckbach, Mayor of Bodman-Ludwigshafen. The technical director was Manfred Rettich, an entrepreneur from Bodman-Ludwigshafen. The following were appointed to the Supervisory Board in 2009: Michael Koch, Robert Hermann, Alessandro Ribaudo, Christoph Specht, Florian Hildebrand, Kuno Storz, David Weimann.

history

The motorboat company was founded on the initiative of Johann Franz Freiherr von Bodman at the same time as the Marienschlucht was made accessible , on the occasion of the engagement of his son Othmar to the Countess von Walderdorff.

The Motorbootgesellschaft Bodman mbH got into financial difficulties when it financed the Grand Duke Ludwig passenger ship exclusively through loans in 2000 . The bankruptcy could only be averted by lending the ship from 2005 to the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe (BSB) of Stadtwerke Konstanz . The charter earned the company over 100,000 euros annually.

For the 2009 season, the scheduled ship operation of Motorbootgesellschaft Bodman mbH was leased to Josef Hanschur, long-time captain of the Bodman motor ship and deputy managing director of Bodensee Erlebnis-Schifffahrt GmbH (BSE) based in Meckenbeuren . This company also operates the Lädine in Immenstaad , a historic sailing ship that is unique on Lake Constance.

At the end of 2009, the management and the supervisory board of the financially troubled company decided to change strategy, a concept that had already been suggested by the former managing director Holger Lortz in 2008: They adapted to the market situation and in 2010 the fleet was reduced to the flagship of Motorbootgesellschaft Bodman mbH , the motor ship Grand Duke Ludwig . The reason was the approval of Bodman (built in 1958), which ended on December 31, 2009 , had been in service with the Bodman motorboat company since 1979 and had previously operated as Kelheim on the Danube . Repairs and renovations would have overwhelmed the company's financial situation. Due to the expiry of the lease with the Bodensee-Schifffahrtsbetriebe for the Grand Duke Ludwig on March 17, 2010 , Bodman , who had been on duty until April 30, 2010, was retired. Up to this point in time, the approval could be extended on a transitional basis.

The motorboat company would have long since been insolvent without loans from the municipality, in October 2010 the liabilities amounted to 1.78 million euros. In the 2010 budget, for example, the municipality grants a loan of 100,000 euros to the motor boat company.

In the meantime, the Motorbootgesellschaft Bodman mbH has been dissolved and integrated into the “Energy, Supply, Transport” (EVV) of the municipality of Bodman-Ludwigshafen, which also covers the costs for the renewal of the radar system in the amount of 23,700 euros.

assignment

In normal operation, the Grand Duke Ludwig operates as a scheduled ship between Bodman , Ludwigshafen , Sipplingen , Marienschlucht and Überlingen . The course line is indispensable for the tourist development of shipping in this part of Lake Constance . Shipping is a magnet for vacationers and tourists. In 2009 alone, the Bodman motor ship carried 50,000 passengers.
