from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mouma Bob (* 1963 in Ingall ; † June 11, 2016 in Ouagadougou ; actually Mohamed Ahar ) was a Nigerian guitarist and singer-songwriter . He was an important exponent of the Tuareg blues , which combined elements of blues and rock with the traditional African music of the Tuareg .

Career

Mouma Bob's music career began in the early 1990s. His haircut, reminiscent of the bob hairstyle , earned him his stage name. He joined the band Takrist n'Akal from Abdallah ag Oumbadougou , who taught him to play the guitar. His instrument was the four-string guitar. His first song, Imidiwane Ahitayime ("My friends let me do what I want with my freedom"), he composed in 1992. By 1993 he wrote ten more pieces. Mouma Bob gave concerts with Abdallah ag Oumbadougou in Libya and Algeria , the purpose of which was to finance terrorist attacks as part of the Tuareg rebellion from 1990 to 1995 .

After the general amnesty for the Tuareg rebels in 1995, he devoted himself to his solo career. Mouma Bob developed his own interpretation of the Tuareg blues , in which reggae influences are recognizable. After the combative songs of his early years, these were now increasingly about peaceful engagement for political causes. With his accompanying band Imawalanes , consisting of 13 musicians and dancers from the Tuareg and Fulbe ethnic groups , he first made a name for himself nationwide in Niger. Tours led to the Netherlands (2000), Switzerland (2003) and Germany (2004). He performed several times at the Festival au Désert in Mali . His first solo album Tina was released in 2003. In it he worked with a synthesizer and drum machine . His second solo album Tandja est grave ma guitare est désaccordée (for example, “My guitar and Tandja have serious upsets”) was Mouma Bob's contribution to the civil movement against Niger’s President Mamadou Tandja . It came out on August 4, 2009, the day of the 2009 constitutional referendum , with which Tandja wanted to secure a controversial third term as president.
