Mounir Chouiar (born January 23, 1999 in Liévin ) is a French football player of Moroccan and Mauritanian descent who has been under contract with FCO Dijon since September 2019 . The winger has been France's U21 international since November 2019 .

Career

Chouiar is of Moroccan and Mauritanian descent and was born in Liévin in northern France . In 2007 he moved from CS Avion to the junior staff at RC Lens . There he penetrated the first team squad for the first time through various junior selections for the 2016/17 season . On July 29th (1st matchday) he made his debut in the 0-0 draw against Chamois Niort in Ligue 2 when he was substituted on for Mathias Autret in the closing stages . In the rest of the season he was only used in two other cup games. It was only used sporadically in the following 2017/18 season .

His breakthrough came during the 2018/19 season . On December 22nd (19th matchday) he scored his first goal in professional football in a 2-1 home defeat against AC Ajaccio . With three goals and one assist, he contributed significantly to the good performance of his team in the league. Lens reached fifth place in the table and qualified for the promotion play-offs, where they failed in the final at the first division club FCO Dijon .

After collecting two goals and one assist in the first four league games of the next 2019/20 season , he moved to FCO Dijon on the deadline day of the summer transfer period for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros. There he played his first game on September 14 (5th matchday) in a 0-0 draw against Nîmes Olympique . On November 1 (12th matchday) he scored for the bottom of the table Dijon in the home game against Paris Saint-Germain shortly before the half-time break to equalize the intermittent 1-1 draw. Dijon won the game with another goal from Jhonder Cádiz and celebrated a surprising success against the league leaders. On February 15, 2020 (25th matchday), he scored a brace in a 2-2 draw against Girondins Bordeaux . During this season he played 20 league games for Dijon, in which he scored four goals.

National team

Chouiar played international matches for various French junior selections. He has been a French U21 international since November 2019 .
