Participants in the Nimrod Expedition (1907–1909) led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton roughly mapped the mountain. The northern group of the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) led by the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott carried out a more detailed exploration and mapping .
