Mount Diablo

The Mount Diablo is a mountain in California and part of the Diablo Range . At 1160 meters, it is the highest point in Contra Costa County . Mount Diablo is the center of Mount Diablo State Park , an 80 km² state park .

The mountain was named Monte del Diablo by the Spanish . The Californian statesman Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo translated the name into English.

Mount Diablo is located south of the Saisun Bay town of Concord and east of Walnut Creek . The California Long Valley extends east of the massif in a north-south direction .

From the summit of the mountains can be seen on a clear day in the eastern Sierra Nevada to see and in the north the southernmost mountain in the Cascade Range , the Lassen Peak and the front of the Sacramento Valley located Sutter Buttes . To the west you can see the Golden Gate Bridge over the Bay of San Francisco .

The summit, on which there are several telecommunication antennas and a surveying station, can be reached on foot, by bike or by car. Access by car is chargeable. The course record from Danville to the summit in the annual Diablo Challenge bike race is 43 minutes, 33 seconds.
