job

In December 1928, Bimboes and the Stuttgart architect C. Braun opened a joint office that specialized in movie theater construction and built cinemas in Wangen and Bad Blankenburg (Thuringia), the Schlosstheater in Mersburg, the Union Theater in Schwäbisch Gmünd and the Lichtspiele in Laupheim , but had to close again in June 1930 for lack of further orders.

Then he was without a permanent job; study trips and freelance work at a horticultural company followed, then work with the architects Paul Darius (1893–1962) and Richard Stahl (both Stuttgart), Otto Carus (Gotha) and Paul Stiebner (Stuttgart). In the summer of 1932 he passed the examination for admission to studies without a secondary school leaving certificate at the Technical University of Stuttgart and studied architecture up to the main diploma examination on March 30, 1935. He then worked in the offices of Hugo Keuerleber in Stuttgart, Emil Rudolf Mewes, until June 1938 in Cologne and G. Schirrmeister in Jena .

From 1943 onwards, after the dissolution of the Reichsbahnbaudirektion Munich, he was assigned to the Reichsbahnbaustaf with draft plans for the new Munich train station.

Third Reich

In the denazification process - Bimboes had been a member of the NSDAP since 1937 - he brought a total of ten affidavits from persons of good repute to discharge him , including Paul Bonatz , who wrote to him on March 28, 1946 from exile in Turkey . Since June 1, 1945 he was again employed in the building construction office of the Reichsbahndirektion Munich and construction manager for the reconstruction of the headquarters building.

In May 1946 he was in charge of the building construction department in Munich 1 until the return of the board of directors, who had been dismissed for political reasons, in January 1948. He then worked as an unskilled worker in the building construction departments until October 1953 and finally moved to the Munich Federal Railway Central Office , where he was initially an unskilled worker, but in June 1964, after the creation of a second building construction department, it became department head and remained so until retirement in 1969. In July 1958 he was accepted into the civil service.

In March 1966, in a seven-page paper, he submitted a proposal to the management board of DB for the creation of a long-distance high-speed rail network, independent of the previous railway network and routes accompanying the motorways : “The time has now come for the same development in the rail sector which began in the road sector about 30 years ago, ”he continued, taking the autobahn as a model not only because of its curve-free, intersection-free route , but also because a route along the lane would avoid new land acquisitions on a large scale. “In the area of motorway bridges, the route would have to be added laterally using a steel structure, and in tunnels it would have to be guided as a special tube. With too large, unsuitable for a high-speed railway slopes "would switch to a particular line. So he developed the idea of a traffic routes bundling , the similarity with around 30 years later largely along the A 3 -run new Cologne-Frankfurt has. Bimboes became visionary when it came to the type of propulsion for the new rapid transit system: in addition to diesel propulsion and electricity using a third rail, he also proposed jet engines .
