Mount Glossopteris is a largely icy and 2865 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . In the Ohio Range of the Horlick Mountains, it rises at the northeast end of the Buckeye Table .
It was named at the suggestion of the American geologist William Ellis Long (* 1930) from Ohio State University , who, together with his brother Jack Long, Charles Bentley and Frederic Darling, succeeded in climbing the mountain for the first time in December 1958. The mountain is named after the Glossopteridales , an order of the extinct plant group of seed ferns , the fossils of which can be found in the rock of the mountain.
