With a height of more than 2000 m, Mount Harding is the highest mountain in the Grove Mountains of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . Only about 200 m of it protrude over the continental ice sheet . It is located around 6 km west of the Gale Escarpment in the south-central part of the mountain range. The Zakharoff Ridge rises 2.5 km southeast of Mount Harding .
The mountain was mapped using aerial photographs taken between 1956 and 1960 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it after the Australian topography draftsman Norman E. Harding, who was involved in the creation of maps of Antarctica as a member of the Australian Ministry of National Development .
