Mount Heg is a massive and icy mountain around 2000 m high in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Victory Mountains , it forms the southern end of a spur of the western section of the Malta Plateau . It is limited in the west by the Seafarer, in the south by the Mariner and in the east by the Potts Glacier .
The mountain was first shown on a New Zealand map from 1960, based on aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1972 after James E. Heg (1919-2015), director of planning and coordination of the polar program at the National Science Foundation .
