Mount Nikolayev ( Russian Гора Николаева Gora Nikolajewa ) is a 2850 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises in the center of the Aurdalsegga in the southern Petermann chain of the Wohlthatmassiv .
It was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers mapped it again using aerial photographs and measurements from the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). The name goes back to a Soviet Antarctic expedition from 1960 to 1961. Name giver is the Soviet petrograve Viktor Arsenjewitsch Nikolajew (1893-1960). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1970.
